DIY Animated Mother’s Day eCards – Animated Emoticons

By admin | Aug 7, 2010

What mother wouldn’t want an animated card from one of her children? And if you make it yourself, so considerable the better. The best design to make an animated card is to do it with a real animation program, such as Animation Shop or Flash. But if you knew how to use those programs, you probably wouldn’t be reading this article, right? So how can you make an animated card for your Mom without expensive software and lots of training and practice using it?

Below are several online sites that might help you. All of them are free and either work in your browser or are a quick download away from being able to form something nice for Mom.

Ping-a-pal lets you create a multi-page animated ecard that you can send to Mom just like a regular ecard. First, go to the site. You’ll be on the first page of your animation. Where it says Category and below that, Page, with the left and right arrows, at the top left, allows you to scroll through the menu of objects that you can add to your scene. Once you find an object you want to add, slump it onto the screen. You can drag a text box and then type text. Some of the objects move and some of them don’t.

When you’re done with one screen, click on the “add” in the “Scene” box on the lower right hand side. Once there is more than one page, you can scroll left and suitable through the scenes (pages). If you’re having trouble visualizing what it will seek like, go ahead and preview it before it’s done, or look at some of the samples. You can even customize a sample one if you want to. Once you’re done, you can preview it and then personalized it and send it to Mom.

My Fun Cards is a free toolbar that will allow you access to over 1000 cards. Read the license agreement before you download it. If you don’t like toolbars, this one might not be for you.

Care2 has regular Mother’s Day cards you can send. You can also do a bunch of cool social networking type of things. But we’re here for ecards, right? These ecards can be personalized in a couple of ways, not as extensive as the ones at Ping-a-pal, but some nice touches exist here, too. You can use their advanced editor to put line breaks in your text, change the font, add emoticons, and more. You can also add a “card greeting” that will appear in bold above your message. Another frigid personalization is that you can add music to your card. Also, when you’re done, you can add a stamp which will show up when your Mom first clicks on her card. You can also choose the date you wish to send the card. Go do it right now and swear it to wait till Mother’s Day to send it, in case you think you’ll forget.

Smilebox has customizable cards, too, but these also allow you to add your own photos. They have hundreds of ecards for every occasion. You have to download the software to use it, and it only works on Windows XP or Vista. But it’s free to use and a lot of fun. The best fraction is you can customize it with your absorb photos and videos, as well as words and music. What better to make a card for Mom than to use a picture of yourself or her grandkids! Once you’re done, you can print the card, or achieve a link in your blog or an email that you send to Mom. She’s sure to appreciate all your hard work.

Oosah is not technically a card-making site, but you can make a customized greeting for you Mom using it, unbiased the same. Oosah is a site that allows you to swap and share images, like Flickr, but it has other features, too. You can create slideshows, galleries and playlists and share them with friends on YouTube, Flickr, Picasa or Facebook. The easy drag and drop interface makes it quickly to learn and the 2 Gb storage limit means you have lots of room for your own photos. Decide a decorative border and organize a slideshow with animated transitions. This is another broad way to delight your mother, especially if you haven’t sent her photos in a while.

If your mother is a Star Wars fan (well, she could be. I am. I’m a mother), you could make her a Star Wars video mashup, using clips and sounds from the Star Wars sagas and also your own videos. A very geeky design to get creative. And if your mother isn’t a Star Wars fan, make her a card at one of the sites above, send it off and then go enjoy this dwelling yourself. There’s always Father’s Day, you could send a Star Wars mashup to Dad.
